Insulight

About Me

Born in rural Cambodia, I spent most of my life surrounded by rural farming, while balancing this with school life. Currently studying in grade 10 at Jay Pritzker Academy, I seek to bridge citizens with innovative education and lifestyles. I am currently the leader of the research and development team of Insulight, raising awareness about diabetes in rural schools in Siem Reap, using my leadership skills in my school's student council and my school's Speech and Debate club to benefit many others in my community. Aside from my mission to relieve the gap between underprivileged citizens, I spend my free time biking, exploring new communities, and gaining diverse experiences about the challenges and lifestyles of many.

Project Description

Insulight is a student-led initiative that aims to promote healthy, diabetes-free lifestyles for communities in rural Cambodia, specifically empowering youth through diet educational programs and activities in public schools. By mobilizing youth in schools, we seek to positively impact youth diets, especially those vulnerable to cheap, unhealthy consumption. But our work does not only involve educational programs to raise awareness about diet problems, we also create opportunities for engaging activities and community building by connecting rural youth for sustainable, healthy futures while involving school officials in this initiative.

In the starting phase of Insulight, we have partnered with 2 schools in rural Siem Reap, impacting over 100 students, through our education programs and engaging activities. Through raising youths' awareness about diabetes within the rural community, we aim to foster a community of health-seeking individuals who become great leaders, inspiring many in the future.

Looking forward, we aim to partner with at least 3 elementary schools by the next 6 months, driving youth to take care of their diet. Through this initiative, we aim to drive the mission of easing diabetes rates in Cambodia, highlighting the importance of community building in these global issues.
